Sports Pathways website ... ... Notice for all to read (hopefully)! ... ... or perhaps an announcement ... ...
Introduction
Hello,
Welcome to the Hill Web. This site is a mixture of family matters and a showcase for my Website Development work. I am Peter Hill, formerly based in Lancashire in the United Kingdom and now near Kuopio in Finland, and I specialise in Web Developments using PHP and MySQL.
Using the open source development language PHP and the MySQL database, I can develop functional and dynamic websites. Some examples are the EHFA (European Health and Fitness Association) and the EOSE (European Observatoire for Sport and Employment.

I use Macromedia Studio 8 for development and have several years experience with the DreamWeaver module. I supplement this with a number of DreamWeaver extensions from Interakt,?now?taken?over?by?Adobe,??that enable me to incorporate MySQL into the websites. MySQL is an open source database and I connect with ADODB.

I started getting interested in Web Development some years ago when asked to develop Intranet and Extranet sites for my employer. I started with ASP and VBScript and then integrated with a backend database. As I became more familiar with development I discovered PHP as a language and the MySQL database. I now concentrate on these.

I have recently developed websites for the European Health and Fitness Association (EHFA) and subsidiary project sites, Euroseen and Eurofit-qst. These use MySQL to provide authentication and enable dispersed users to upload and download articles and files as well as administer the subscribers lists.

Methods
I use Macromedia Studio 8 for my development work. I have used Macromedia products for some years and find them very user friendly. I also find that their extensions, particularly for DreamWeaver, are very useful. In particular, I must mention Interakt, recently taken over by Adobe. Their products are superb and my websites make much use of them.
I have been using PHP and MySQL for a number of years now, starting with Intranet Developments and expanding into Internet websites. In particular I use DreamWeaver extensions developed by Interakt to provide database driven websites with Content Management.
Notes
This DBMS is awesome. So simple to use and so effective on a website. Combining with the DreamWeaver extensions from Interakt, it enables effective controls on access to secure websites. MySQL

Testing
PHP is a recursive acronym standing for PHP Hypertext Preprocessor! This installs easily on both Windows and Linux platforms. There is a large community on the Internet and forums that will answer any questions you might have. It is also a continually evolving language and worth the time to explore. PHP is simple to install and configure on Windows.
I also use a part of the site for testing web development so that if you are in need of any Web Development work I can showcase examples for you. I chose PHP and MySQL as these Open Sources options allow me to work with Windows and Linux servers. I am keen on database driven dynamic websites to enable authorised site users to make their own changes.
